About me
What I do for a living
As an experience designer my role is to come up with creative divergent-thinking approaches to designing human-centric products and services, and solving problems not just for my employer’s or clients’ customers but also inside the workplace, improving business processes and facilitating collaboration. My specialisation is web user interface and interaction design where I develop wireframe screen layouts and transitions, otherwise I’m producing sketches, visualisations and reports and bringing design thinking to the design, implementation and evaluation phases of projects.
For a comprehensive explanation on what I do for a living, see my professional profile.
I’m also involved with and a big supporter of open government, e-democracy and Government 2.0 in Australia and am a designer, local liaison and social media strategist for OpenAustralia.
My blogs
| purecaffeine.com | User and customer experience design, interaction design, social media, Government 2.0, design book reviews and social innovation. Have also started a recurring “Design challenge” theme. |
| Lounge Sessions | My blog on everything else. Thoughts and opinions on life, work, society, religion, philosophy and stories of personal experiences. Can get a little ranty and sweary. |
| Photo blog | Collections of my photos from photo shoots and travels including pictures of my cooking, photographic techniques and experiences with photography. I shoot with a Canon 400D DSLR with f/1.4 50mm, a f/3.5-4.5 24-85mm and a Lensbaby Composer lens. I’m semi-professional and have started doing portrait and wedding shoots for clients. |
| My Exodus | My personal story of growing up in, leaving and recovering from a toxic fundamentalist Christian cult. I plan to follow up this blog with a published book in 2011. |
| world tweak | Ideas, inventions, products and services I would love to implement if I had the time and money. Mostly just a creative outlet for me but it’d be nice to think that people are listening who can actually do these things. |
I also blog for Canberra Coworking and have guest blogged for UXmatters, UX Magazine and more.
Music
I play keyboard, drums and bass guitar. I’m not in a band at the moment but played a few mostly local gigs with my previous band The Camals and played in Townsville and Honiara in 2005 as drummer with AFP rock band Short Notice alongside the Royal Australian Navy band and Yothu Yindi.
Cooking
I find it very satisfying to come home after work and spend a couple of hours in the kitchen cooking something that looks and tastes great. I love a good challenge. I have become reasonably proficient since leaving home in 2008 from where I could just manage to fry a sausage to now regularly cooking yummy curries, pasta, seafood, pizza, casseroles, bakes, bread and some desserts. I have some photos of my cooking up on Flickr.
